12th Commencement Ceremony of AUW today

The 12th Commencement Ceremony of the Asian University for Women (AUW) will be held at Radisson Blu Hotel in the port-city today (Saturday) with its Chancellor Cherie Blair in the chair. Professor Irene Tracey, Vice Chancellor of the University of Oxford, UK, will attend the function as the speaker and recipient of an Honorary Doctor of Sciences.

Honorary degrees will also be conferred upon the following individuals: Akie Abe, former first lady of Japan, Doctor of Humane Letters; Janet Royall of Blaisdon, House of Lords, UK, former principal of Somerville College, University of Oxford, Doctor of Arts for Leadership and Educational Equity; Dr. M. Osman Farruk, former minister of education, Government of Bangladesh, Doctor of Sciences for Educational Development; Dr. Teruo Fujii, President, The University of Tokyo, Doctor of Sciences; Ambassador Ito Naoki, former ambassador to Bangladesh, Doctor of Arts for Advancement of Peace; and Matiur Rahman, Editor, Prothom Alo, Doctor of Courage in Journalism.
