50th BCS preliminary exam on Jan 30

The preliminary test for the 50th Bangladesh Civil Service examination is to be held on Friday, Jan 30. The Public Service Commission (PSC) announced that the exam will be held in eight divisional cities from 10 am to noon that day.

The date was announced in a press release on Tuesday.

Although the exam starts at 10 am, the commission has asked candidates to reach their exam centres by 9:30 am, stating that all the gates of the centres will be closed after that time, reports bdnews24.com.

The preliminary exam consists of a 200-mark Multiple Choice Question exam. The duration of the test will be two hours, and there will be 200 questions. Candidates will get 1 mark for each correct answer, while 0.5 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.

Books, all types of watches, mobile phones, scientific or programmable calculators, all types of electronic devices, any device similar to bank or credit cards, jewellery, bracelets, bags and wallets are barred from the exam centre.

The commission says that no candidate will be able to enter the examination hall with these prohibited items.

During entry, candidates will have to submit their admit card and be searched for prohibited items using a metal detector in the presence of police and an executive magistrate at the exam centre gate.

The commission said, on the day of the examination, an SMS reminder will be sent to the mobile phones of all candidates not to bring prohibited items with them. The instructions in the SMS message must be followed.

During the examination, candidates are not allowed to wear any covering on their ears and must keep them open. If any type of hearing aid is required, the candidate must obtain approval from the commission in the morning while providing a specialist doctor's consultation letter.

The PSC published the notice for the 50th BCS on November 26 for recruitment to 1,755 posts in various cadres and 395 non-cadre posts for a total of 2,150 open positions. The application process for the BCS opened on December 4 and closed on December 31.

The highest number of recruits - 650 – will go to the health cadre, while 200 will go to the administrative cadre. The education cadre comes third with 185 posts open to recruits.

The commission has outlined its plan to complete the BCS exam and result procedure within a year in the initial notice. In the notification, the PSC said that the results of the preliminary examination for the BCS will be published on February 10. The written examination will be held on Apr 9, with a probable date for the results on Jul 30. The viva (oral) examinations will start Aug 10, with the results published on Nov 25.

The preliminary and written examinations for the BCS will be held in eight divisional cities. The oral examination will be held at the PSC’s head office.

The commission will not accept any petitions from candidates to change their examination centres.
