58th Chittagong University Day was celebrated on the university campus on 18th November. The celebration began at 10 AM at the premises of central Shaheed Minar, CU.
Honourable Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Shireen Akhter inaugurated the programme by blowing balloons-festoons and flying pigeons in the sky. On 18th November 1966, Chittagong University started its journey as the 5th public university in Bangladesh.
After that, a procession started from the Shaheed Minar premises, and after encompassing different places, it ended at CU Bangabandhu Square. Then, the honourable Vice-chancellor, along with other stakeholders, paid tribute by placing a wreath at the portrait of the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
A seminar took place at the auditorium of social science faculty at 11 AM, where Professor Dr Shireen Akhter spoke as the chief guest of the programme. Besides, Prof Benu Kumar Dey, honourable Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic), also attended the programme as a special guest.
Also, Md Abdul Karim, the President of the CU Alumni Association and Former Chief Secretary to the Honourable Prime Minister, presented an article at the seminar. The programme started with the national anthem of Bangladesh, and after that, the honourable guests delivered their speeches gradually.
Prof Dr Shireen Akhter said, "We are very happy to celebrate the day. We have produced many prominent personalities from this university from the beginning to the present day. I believe that the trend will continue, and the university will ensure a good ranking worldwide."
After that, the guests and others were honoured with flowers and mementoes. In the end, a cultural programme was organised. Professor Dr Shireen Akhter thanked everyone for participating in the occasion.
