Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has officially introduced a monitoring system for research projects funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC). This initiative marks a significant step in ensuring accountability and progress tracking in university research.
"Until now, there was no monitoring system for UGC-funded research projects. Today, we have officially launched the monitoring of research projects at BAU through this workshop. This is a unique and groundbreaking initiative. In the future, the monitoring system will be fully digitalized to ensure real-time oversight," said Professor Dr. Masuma Habib, a UGC member, while addressing the workshop as the chief guest.
The workshop on monitoring the progress of ongoing research projects was held at 10 am on Sunday (February 23) in the conference room of the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Agriculture. The event was organized by BAU authorities.
Dr. Habib emphasized that BAU has set a unique example in agricultural research in Bangladesh. She underscored the importance of expanding university research nationwide, including in Mymensingh, and assured that UGC is committed to providing all necessary support.
"Qualitative changes in the education system are essential to foster a research-oriented nation. The Chief Adviser, Education Adviser, and Special Assistant of the current interim government are all teachers. I hope they will prioritize research and allocate more funding to advance the education system," she added.
UGC Secretary Dr. Mohammad Fakhrul Islam presided over the program virtually. Special guests included Professor Dr. Md. Hammadur Rahman, Director of BAU Research System (BAURES). Teachers and postgraduate students from various university departments also attended the event.
In his speech, Dr. Fakhrul Islam highlighted the significance of higher research in advancing knowledge and skills. "The more advanced a country’s higher education and research sector, the more developed that nation becomes. Therefore, more practical research is needed for national development," he stated, urging educators to disseminate research findings at the grassroots level.
