Private universities in Bangladesh are establishments of business-minded frontrunners to make tertiary education available to the target customers, the vast number of students not getting a seat at the admirable public universities. 

However, considering the many benefits, educational investment and profit were certainly parts. 

Only at the beginning of the 1990s did Bangladesh see its first private university; their demands started spreading in the naughties, and with time, their needs grew higher as the country’s population increased. 

Bengalis are rather cynical about open ideas and tend to be distasteful to manners like Western culture, even when it comes to education. To their resentment, many prominent private universities allow the American approach to university education. 

The people of the country are flexible with many things but, sadly, not a bit pricey things, like sending their children to private universities.

No quality education

Prominent private universities continuously upgrade their curriculums by consulting educational experts. Although the practice of skill-orientation of curriculums may not be functional in all private universities, the presence of the institutions is substantial to meet the demands of youth demanding tertiary education across the country. It makes education more distributed if not anything else.  

Students buy certificate

An entirely false accusation, students must undergo various assessments in private universities, midterms, finals, quizzes, presentations, viva and assignments. They are also met with the chance to produce research work, attend research conferences, and internships or jobs. Research projects capable of publication in world-class journals are encouraged in prominent private universities like any other renowned public university in the country. 

No employment

An impressive number of students from private universities receive job offers before even graduating from their institutes. Many tend to engage in economic activities like tuition, business ventures, odd jobs, and part-time jobs. Offer letters from illustrious organisations inside and outside the country are availed by students from private universities. 

Students devoid of analytical skills

The assessments in renowned private universities are standard and difficult, sometimes even dreadful. They tend to push the students to think outside their comfort zone to score good marks or create a good impression through their performances. The assessments consist of exams and practical tasks like solving problems. Students get to display their verbal skills as well as writing skills. 

Only the rich are allowed

The student population consists of upper-class to lower-middle-class families. Students from lower-middle-class families receive financial aid or scholarships based on their performance in assessments. The rich have the favour of money, but most of the students belong to middle-class families. 

Good results don’t count

Students from private universities have a record of receiving prestigious scholarships and honours like the Prime Minister’s Gold Medal and the Richard E. Merwin scholarship. The persevering ones get employed just after graduation. Moderate to handsome CGPA holders engage in hands-on activities that represent their degrees. Many lower CGPA holders are associated with skill-oriented economic activities in various fields. 

No campus

The University Grant Commission has restricted private universities to avail a permanent campus to get better ranks. Prominent private universities like BRAC and Daffodil have already made efforts to enhance the campus environments to pay attention to that. 

The other private universities like NSU, EWU, AUST, and AIUB received appreciation for providing a clean, healthy campus environment. Updated canteen, common room, and library are amongst the many accommodations available alongside Well-maintained classrooms and labs. The libraries have affiliations with world-class journals and e-library systems.
