Amid the cricket World Cup 2023 craze, the Chittagong University Finance Business and Debating Association (CU-FBDA), a distinguished skills development club at the Department of Finance, University of Chittagong, presented the fifth exhilarating season of Communication In Action, with the slogan "Where logic breaks boundaries".

Communication In Action (CIA), a national debate competition, is the flagship programme of CU FBDA, a club well-known in the debating society. After much anticipation this year CIA came back with its fifth edition, where 28 teams from 25 universities across the country and excellent roster adjudicators came together for a two-day tournament in the format of a British Parliamentary debate in Chattogram on October 27 and 28.

After six rounds of rigorous competition, DU A emerged as the novice champions and CCPC B as the runner-up. CUDS A took the championship in the open category, while DU C took the runner-up position.

The first day of the event was conducted at Chittagong University's Faculty of Business Administration, where the tournament's preliminary round was concluded. The final day unfolded at BGMEA Bhaban, the event, in a grand way. Professor Benu Kumar Dey, pro-vice-chancellor of the University of Chittagong, Chair of the programme Professor Dr Mohammad Nesarul Karim, chairman, from the Department of Finance, Dr Jannat Ara Parveen, former chairman of the Department of Finance, University of Chittagong, Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, vice president of BGMEA, Hamidur Rahman, managing director of Savannah Fashion Limited, Istiaque Mahmood Zenith, director of Savannah Fashion Limited and ANM Wazed Ali, general manager and large project supply chain specialist of Abul Khair Group, were present on the final day.

Since 2007, CU-FBDA has worked tirelessly to foster a progressive culture of debate among students and to develop the enthusiastic leaders of the future. The fifth season of Communication in Action (CIA-5.0) marks a significant stride towards achieving this goal. Within the realm of competitive debates, CIA stands as a prestigious tournament, with CU FBDA continually aiming to surpass its prior accomplishments with each new season. The inauguration of CIA-4.0 in 2020 marked a groundbreaking moment for Chittagong University, as it hosted its first-ever international debate competition. FBDA has a history of remarkable achievements, excelling in both national and international debate tournaments as well as business competitions. Notably, the club has proudly represented Chittagong University in esteemed events such as the World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC). Adding to its recent triumphs, FBDA emerged victorious at the AUW Inter Varsity Debate Championship 2023 as well as PUDS BP Casual 2023, solidifying its reputation as a powerhouse in the debating arena.
