Dhaka University National Model United Nations, marketed as DUNMUN, is one of the largest MUN conferences in South Asia. It is embarking with 500+ delegates joining this massive journey of MUN on July 19.
In this world of the United Nations and the diplomatic decisions that rule the system, many of us aren’t aware of what MUNs are. Here’s an insight into how MUNs play a vital role among students, young leaders, and dreamers.
As the name - Model United Nations - suggests, it is a kind of conference where a model of United Nations conferences is held. Students gain experience in how two or more countries resolve their issues with the art of negotiation, or in a word - diplomacy.
This simulation of the actual United Nations conference also helps students develop skills in public speaking, which is required in various fields of career.
Since the Model UNs discuss worldly issues, including politics, students come to know about the events and also become able to demonstrate their perspective on the substances. Also, students who join in such crowded sessions and put themselves out are statistically more confident in their fields and careers.
MUNs also put students in situations when they might face dead ends in the middle of a speech or get some unknowing info dealt to them. These situations help them grow and develop their problem-solving and analytical skills to get ameliorated in impromptu speeches.
We all are getting used to the idea that the world is getting tinier gradually because of all the connections and communication. To those who wonder how to develop networking, MUNs are a great answer. Through the thick and thin of these corporate-styled conferences and meetings, people learn to connect with others and grow their networks.
Leadership skill is a kind of thing which the world feels attracted to, and for students, MUNs are a great place to achieve and sharpen that skill, as they have to talk and organize many procedures in front of hundreds of unknown people and that is the way to get oneself trained.
Apart from all the mentioned above, MUNs also encourage one to write better and to be skilled at that. Though it may not seem so direct, MUNs require a colossal amount of writing, from writing speeches, writing position papers to writing resolutions. It all comes down to enhancing writing skills as well.
With Dhaka University Model United Nations Association starting one of the far-reaching MUN programs in South Asia, it is time students got more involved with this tremendously helpful culture and honed their skills.
