The education authorities are set to introduce a ranking system for schools and colleges to foster a competitive environment and improve the quality of education across Bangladesh.

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon announced the initiative on Thursday during a meeting with officials from the Directorate of Inspection and Audit (DIA).

The proposed ranking will be determined by specific indices, including the quality of education, institutional management, learning environment, and academic results, he said.

The ministry issued a media statement on the proceedings of a series of meetings, including the one with DIA.

The minister also emphasised transparency and effective supervision.

The minister also held talks with the Education Engineering Department (EED), and the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE).

He hinted at expanding the EED’s operations to the Upazila level, similar to the LGED, and stressed the need for sustainable construction.

The minister directed DSHE officials to implement an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based software for teacher transfers to eliminate lobbying and ensure transparency.
