Organized by Cinemascope, the film will be screened on August 16, 2025, at 5:00 pm at the Dhanmondi Campus-A Auditorium of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).
After screening at over 40 leading universities and institutions worldwide—including Yale University, New York University, UCLA, University of Chicago, UC Berkeley, and Boston University—the internationally acclaimed documentary film The Ice Cream Sellers will finally make its Bangladesh premiere in Dhaka, according to a media release.
Directed by Bangladeshi-Portuguese filmmaker and teacher Sohel Rahman, The Ice Cream Sellers tells the poignant story of two Rohingya siblings navigating life in the world’s largest refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar.
In the aftermath of the Rohingya genocide, the children begin selling cheap ice cream door-to-door, hoping to raise enough money to bribe officials for the release of their father imprisoned in Myanmar.
A moving portrayal of survival, resilience, and lost childhood, the film has received widespread international recognition, including the Audience Choice Award for Best Feature Documentary film at the Tasveer South Asian Film Festival (Seattle, USA) and Best Feature Documentary film at the South Asian Film Festival (Montreal, Canada).
The Bangladesh premiere of the film is organized by CinemaScope, the Film Apprenticeship Program of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).
The event will take place in Campus A Auditorium, followed by a Q&A session with the director.
