BAU marks World Veterinary Day 2025 with colorful festivities and rally

The Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) campus buzzed with excitement and colour as it celebrated World Veterinary Day 2025 with vibrant programmes and spirited participation.

The day's events commenced at 10:30 AM on Saturday (April 26) with a lively rally organised by the Faculty of Veterinary Science.

Starting from Convocation Square, the rally passed the Vice-Chancellor’s residence, K.R. Market, and faculty buildings, ending at the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Auditorium.

Around 300 enthusiastic veterinary students joined the celebration. Prior to the rally, a cheerful cake-cutting ceremony and a symbolic balloon release were held in front of Building No. 2.

The festivities were led by a horse-drawn carriage and a spirited marching band, adding a classic touch to the day.

The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science and Syndicate member at BAU.

The welcome address was delivered by Professor Dr. Md. Abu Hadi Noor Ali Khan, Chairman of the World Veterinary Day 2025 Celebration Committee and a Department of Pathology faculty member.

Professor Dr. KHM Nazmul Hussain Nazir, Head of the Department of Microbiology and Hygiene, served as the programme's master of ceremonies, while the keynote speech was presented by Professor Dr. Md. Mokbul Hossain from the Department of Pathology.

Among the notable attendees were Professor Dr. Muhammad Shahidul Haque (Student Affairs Advisor), Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Alim (Proctor), Professor Dr. Masum Ahmad (Acting Dean, Faculty of Agriculture), Professor Dr. Md. Shahiduzzaman (Chief Advisor, BAU Press Club), Professor Dr. Md. Ariful Islam (Director, Security Council), Professor Dr. Md. Mahbub Alam (Department of Medicine), and Dr. Manoranjon Dhar (Director, Mymensingh Divisional Livestock Office), along with numerous students from various departments.

During the speeches, speakers passionately emphasised the need for establishing a unified veterinary degree across Bangladesh to strengthen the profession nationally.

Highlighting the role of BAU’s Faculty of Veterinary Science, Dean Professor Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman noted, "Our faculty remains at the forefront of producing highly skilled veterinary experts through innovative research, quality education, and outreach, ensuring animal health, public health, and food safety improvements."

He underscored the ongoing threats from infectious and non-infectious diseases to the livestock sector and stressed veterinarians' pivotal role in disease control and prevention.

He also spoke on veterinarians' critical contributions to combating food adulteration, addressing antibiotic resistance, and raising awareness about zoonotic diseases.

Furthermore, he praised the essential role veterinarians played during the C
OVID-19 pandemic and emphasised the increasing significance of the One Health concept worldwide.
