Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) will reopen its dormitories for undergraduate students from November 10 after more than a one-and-a-half-year closure.

Shahid Smriti Hall, dedicated for the students of post-graduation, will be reopened later, said Dr Mizanur Rahman, Director of Student Welfare of the university.

In-person classes will begin from November 13, according to a decision taken at the academic session review committee's meeting held recently with BUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Satya Prasad Majumder in the chair, reports BSS.

All the undergraduate students will be allowed to board their rooms on the conditions of receiving at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, he added.

Mizan said about 82 per cent of students have already received a single dose of the Covid-19 vaccine while 68 per cent have received both doses.

“A temporary Covid-19 vaccine campaign will be held on the campus shortly to vaccinate all students,” he added.

A lot of innovation and repairing activities have been done in the dormitories to welcome back the students as it's being reopened after a long, BUET VC Professor Majumder said.

“Canteens, dining rooms, reading room, mosque and washrooms of the dorms have been renovated, he added. After entering the halls, students must follow the health guidelines, wear masks and maintain social distance,” he added.
