Chittagong University Debating Society (CUDS) arranged a 3-months long workshop for debate and public speaking. It was the 18th workshop of CUDS, and the closing ceremony was held on 26 July.
The programme was held at the FBA (Faculty of Business Administration) auditorium of Chittagong University (CU).
Prof Dr Shireen Akhter, Honourable Vice-Chancellor of CU, was the programme's chief guest.
Benu Kumar Dey (Academic), Honourable Pro Vice-Chancellor of CU and Dr Abu Noman, Former Dean of CU Law faculty, also attended there.
The programme was patronised by Prof ABM Abu Noman, who is also a moderator of CUDS. Prof Abdul Hoque, General Secretary of CU Teachers' Association; Nur Anwar Hossain, General Manager of BTV Chattogram Center; and ANM Wazed Ali, General Manager of Abul Khair Group, were the invited guests to the programme.
There were more than 700 students of CU who actively participated in the workshop, and they were trained in debate and public speaking. There were both Bengali and English segments for debate where the experts trained the students about the segments.
There was a prize-giving segment in the programme where the winners in different segments got prizes. In the novice debate championship (Bengali), Team Ternians was the champion, and Team Anirban was the runner-up.
Sanveeraj Hossain became the debater of the final in Bengali debate segment. In Novice Debate Championship (English), Team 18 December was the champion, and Shrabosti Talukder became the debater of the final in this segment.
In the Public Speaking Competition, Seemanta Sinha achieved the first position, while Shrabosti Talukder and Md Jihad Ali consecutively achieved the second and third positions.
Prof Dr Shireen Akhter, Honourable Vice-Chancellor of CU, said, "Debate is the platform where the students can get the scope to know the unknown facts and to enhance the creativity of their own. A student can explore his latent talents through participating in debate." She also thanked CUDS for arranging such an educative workshop.
Marzook-E-Elahi, Joint Secretary of CUDS, said, "Debate is brainstorming and a student can develop his critical thinking capability through it. This is not only important for his student life but also important for his professional life. Also, debate is important to enhance the presentation skill of the students."
The programme ended by arranging a cultural programme. The media partners of the programme got mementoes at the programme. The whole programme was conducted by Kayes MD Sayfullah, President of CUDS.
