The Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) administration has suspended 11 students following allegations of ragging, reports bdnews24.com.

The ‘Students Discipline Committee’ imposed a 6-month suspension on each of them at its 278th meeting on Wednesday.

The suspended students are Ifthekhar Ahmed Siam, Faisal Ahmed Bhuiyan, Dipayan Majumdar Sujon, Mohammad Tahsin Uddin Samin, Muminur Rahman Shrestha, Bahauddin Zakabia, Abhik Pal, Swarup Chandra Modak, Dibakar Chandra Sinha Kabya, Md Sohanur Rahman Sohan, and Farhan Haque. All of them are enrolled in the Department of Civil Engineering.

The suspended students were accused of ragging fellow students, CUET Student Welfare Director Prof Md Mahbubul Alam told bdnews24.com.

The office order issued by the Directorate of Student Welfare in CUET said the accused took some students of batch No. 23 out of the campus on Nov 5 and harassed them from 10:30pm to 12:30am.

Following the incident, the accused students were issued a show-cause notice, and a probe committee was formed to look into the matter.

The students failed to provide a satisfactory reply to the notice. Based on the probe committee report and a personal hearing, they were barred from academics for the next six months.

However, the suspended students can appeal against the suspension in 15 days, the order said.
