DU Faculty of Arts: 156 students, 10 teachers receive Dean's Award

Dhaka University's Faculty of Arts has honoured 156 students and 10 teachers with the prestigious Dean's Award for outstanding academic and research achievements spanning three years, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

The award ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, where the recipients received their awards in a grand event.

The teachers were honoured under four categories for publishing original research books and scholarly articles in reputed national and international journals.

The student awardees were from a total of 17 departments including Arabic; Persian Language and Literature; Urdu; Sanskrit; Pali and Buddhist Studies; History; Philosophy; Islamic Studies; Islamic History and Culture; Information Science and Library Management; Theatre and Performance Studies; Linguistics; Music; World Religions and Culture; and Dance.

The teacher awardees included Professor Dr. Zubair Muhammad Ehsanul Haque from Arabic Department; Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahim from Islamic History and Culture Department; Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Sarker and Dr. Md. Mumit Al Rashid from Persian Language and Literature Department; Professor Dr. Md. Abu Syem and Dr. Shafi Md. Mostofa from the World Religions and Culture department; Dr. Shantu Barua from the Pali and Buddhist Studies department; and Dr. Qumrul Hasan Chowdhury from the English Department.

Speaking as the chief guest, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan said, "It gives us great pleasure to honour merit. Hard work is the foundation of excellence, and behind every success lies the contribution of many."

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha, attending as the special guest, said, "This programme is a moment of pride for our university. Recognising talent is a true measure of success. As teachers, we feel fulfilled when our students achieve excellence in different fields."

Faculty of Arts Dean Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan said, "Today is a day of pride and celebration for all of us. However, we must not rest on our achievements. This recognition brings with it a greater sense of social responsibility."
