EWU holds doa mahfil for late Syed Manzur Elahi

East West University (EWU) has organised a condolence meeting and doa mahfil in memory of its late chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Syed Manzur Elahi, who passed away on March 12 at the age of 83.

The programmes were held at the Manzur Elahi Auditorium of the university on Tuesday.

Family members of the late Syed Manzur Elahi, EWU vice chancellor; Pro-VC, treasurer, deans, faculty members; officials; staff; students of the university; and distinguished guests from various sectors of the country attended the condolence meeting. They shared heartfelt tributes to the deceased and prayed for the peace of his soul.

EDU Chief Adviser Prof Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, also a close friend of the late Elahi, shared precious memories from their 60 years of friendship.

He spoke about Manzur Elahi’s various social service activities and mentioned that he conducted his business by strictly adhering to laws and ensuring worker satisfaction.

Farashuddin added that Manzur Elahi never took advantage of political affiliations, even when he served as an adviser to the caretaker government twice.

He also suggested that the interim government should honour the “Sadhinota Padak” award to a distinguished person like Manzur Elahi.

In his speech, Syed Nasim Manzur, son of the late Syed Manzur Elahi, shared that his father was concerned about the students from low-income families studying at East West University and had instructed to give them special importance.

EWU VC Professor Dr Shams Rahman, Dean of the Liberal Arts and Social Science Faculty, the registrar, and administrative officials of EWU shared their memories of the late Manzur Elahi on the occasion.

They offered special prayers for the peaceful repose of the departed soul.
