The final round of the ‘National Policy Competition 2025’, themed “Bangladesh’s Foreign Policy in the Post-July Uprising: Redefining National Interest and Global Relations,” was held at Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Thursday at the university’s Senate Hall.
Organised under the Ministry of Youth and Sports as part of the “Festival of Youth 2025,” the event drew strong student participation. Out of 18 initial concept submissions, 15 teams advanced to the semi-final stage, from which five teams qualified for the final round.
“The July Uprising was a historic people’s movement, organised without leaders or manifestos, yet uniting citizens from all walks of life against authoritarian rule and external dominance. The competition has shown that our young generation aspires to a balanced foreign policy," said Chief guest Professor Dr Dilara Chowdhury, a prominent academic and political analyst.
Chairing the programme, JU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan highlighted Bangladesh’s limitations in policy-making. “No one will bring change for us — we must change ourselves. The unity that ousted authoritarianism must not be lost,” he said.
At the end of the competition, the team comprising Khurshida Khan Trisha, Sumaiya Jahan Samanta, and Shomorita Barua was declared champion. The first runner-up title went to the team of Humayra Tasnim Shammi, Sharif Meherab Hossain Jidan, and Tasnim Kader, while the second runner-up was secured by Samiha Akter Salma, Sumaiya Akter, and Mirza Sakir.
The winning teams received cash prizes of Tk 45,000, Tk 30,000, and Tk 15,000 respectively, along with commemorative crests and lockets. They will now represent Jahangirnagar University in the upcoming national round of the competition.
