To raise awareness and preparedness for fire emergencies, a special training session on the use of fire extinguishers was organised for the officials, staff, and students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh.

The training was held on Thursday (May 5) at 12 pm in the courtyard of the university’s Central Library. The initiative was taken by the Acting Librarian of the Central Library, agriculturist Borhan Uddin.

Members of the Fire Service conducted the hands-on session, where participants were trained on different types of fire extinguishers, their proper usage, and emergency response measures during fire incidents. Associate Student Affairs Adviser Professor Dr Mohammad Saifullah was also present during the programme.

The organisers said that the training was essential to ensure fire safety in such a vital facility like the library. In addition to library staff, students from various faculties also took part in the drill.

Speaking about the initiative, Librarian Borhan Uddin stated, “The library houses valuable books and research materials worth around Tk 40 crore. It also preserves archival newspaper records dating back to 1962. Therefore, we must remain prepared to handle any fire risk. There are plans to organise such training sessions regularly in the future.”
