Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad forms fresh committee at JU

The Bangladesh Democratic Students’ Council (BDSC), also known as Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad, has formed a new convening committee for its Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit. The central committee finalised the list on Wednesday, June 18.

Arifuzzaman Uzzal from the Marketing department has been appointed as the Convenor, while Abu Touhid Md Siam of the International Relations department will serve as the Member Secretary. According to an official statement, the committee—considered the student wing of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP)—will remain active for one year.

Nasim Al Tariq and Ahsan Labib have been appointed as Senior Joint Convenor and Senior Joint Member Secretary, respectively.

The Joint Convenors are Nahid Hasan Emon, Kawsar Alam Arman, Jannatul Ferdous Anjum, Dewal Al Fahad, Zia Uddin Ayan, Nazmul Islam Limon, Shahriar Emon, and Zahid Hasan. Joint Member Secretaries include Tanvir Ahmed Shihab, Maryur Rahman Chowdhury, Sajjad Hossain, Farhana Binte Jigar, Farina Galib Hasan, Riazul Islam Riaz, Mashruf Hossain, Md. Sajib Chowdhury, and Sadi Mohammad Sadi.

Nakib Al Mahmud Arnob has been appointed Chief Organiser. The other Organisers are Kazi Mehrab Turjo, Md Abdullah Asif, Abdun Nur Al Nahiyan, Nabila Mehjabin, Md Abdur Rahman, Mohammad Sohag, Md Nihal Mahmud, Md Milon Haque, Md Sajjad, Rafsan Mahmud Jisan, Md Al Amin, Khandakar Al Fahad, and Mosharraf Hossain.

Nadia Rahman Onnesha will act as the spokesperson.

General members of the committee include Twa-Seen Ahmed, Ring Ya Murong, Tanzila Tasnim (Setu), Jaraf Omar, Arafat Rahman, Sarjida Akter, Riazul Islam Shakil, Lamia Tasnim, Faruk Hasan Sakib, Mohammad Ali Chishti, Maruf Billah Naim, Masudul Anwar Nihal, Ahsanul Mahbub Zubayer, Enamul Kabir, Ashikul Islam, Md Imrul Kayes, Md Mominul Islam Shawon, Md Mostafizur Rahman Liton, Rabbi Hossain Bappy, Md Zumman Sikder, Md Rifat Raihan, and Md Shahriar Iqbal.

Speaking to The Financial Express, newly appointed Member Secretary Abu Touhid Md Siam said, “The BDSC was founded in the spirit of the July Mass Uprising, and we are committed to continuing that legacy. From 1947 to 1971, we upheld every just democratic movement in Bangladesh.”

He added, “Our goal is to build an educated, aware, and democratic student community free from muscle power.”
