The High Court has issued a two-month suspension on publishing the results of the Dhaka University (DU) “Ga” Unit admission test for the 2024-25 academic year under the Faculty of Business Studies.
At the same time, the court has issued a rule asking why the test should not be cancelled.
The bench of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Sikder Mahmudur Raji passed the order on Wednesday following a writ petition by a candidate who sat for the test.
Petitioner Jihan Al Fuad represented himself during the hearing, while lawyer Mohammad Shishir Manir appeared for Dhaka University.
Commenting on the order, Manir told reporters that the university authorities have been instructed to make an appropriate decision regarding the Ga Unit admission test results within these two months.
The admission test for the Ga Unit was held on Feb 8 across eight divisional cities.
The multiple-choice questions (MCQ) section had a notable error, with four pairs of questions being repeated.
Specifically, in the B set of question papers for the accounting section, four out of 12 questions were duplicated.
The repetition was found at serial numbers 25 and 33, 26 and 34, 27 and 35, and 28 and 36.
Following the test, Prof Mahmood Osman Imam, the dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, acknowledged the mistake, calling it “unfortunate”.
"We regret this unintended error. However, students have no reason to worry. We have identified the issue, and we will assess the answer scripts accordingly using a specific pattern. No injustice will be done to the candidates," he said.
However, candidate Jihan was not convinced by the dean’s assurance.
He initially appealed to DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan for a re-examination, but after receiving no response, he filed a writ petition in the High Court on Mar 16, seeking the cancellation of the test.
