Jagannath University hosts student motivation workshop

The Department of Psychology at Jagannath University organized a seminar and workshop titled “Student Motivation and Feedback Workshop” under the UGC HEAT Sub-Project (PIN 12175), aiming to enhance student engagement and improve feedback mechanisms in higher education.

Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Alim, Dean of the Faculty of Life and Earth Sciences at Jagannath University, attended the program as the Chief Guest, according to a media release. 

In his address, Dr. Alim highlighted the importance of student motivation in achieving academic success and stressed that effective feedback systems are essential for continuous learning and development.

The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Asoke Kumar Saha, who emphasized the need for creating a supportive academic environment where students feel encouraged to express their ideas and concerns.

He noted that motivation and constructive feedback are key drivers of academic excellence.

Among the special guests, Professor Dr. Kazi Saifuddin shared valuable insights into the role of teachers in fostering student motivation through innovative teaching strategies.

He also discussed how feedback can be used as a tool to guide students toward better performance.

The workshop featured engaging presentations by distinguished speakers, including Professor Dr. Noor Muhammad and Professor Dr. Muhammad Akram Uzzaman.

They focused on practical approaches to improving student-teacher interaction and implementing effective feedback systems within academic institutions.

Professor Dr. Fatema-Tu-Zohra Binte Zaman, Chairman of the Department of Psychology at Jagannath University, also spoke at the event, highlighting the importance of understanding students’ psychological needs to boost motivation and learning outcomes.

Notably, Professor Dr. Enamul Hoque from the Department of Psychology at University of Rajshahi attended the workshop as a special guest and delivered a speech.

He emphasized the need for a student-centered approach in higher education and encouraged educators to adopt modern methods of teaching and assessment.

He also stressed that timely and constructive feedback can significantly enhance students’ academic performance and confidence.

The session was skillfully moderated by Dr. Rajeka Fardosh Tany, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology at Jagannath University, who facilitated interactive discussions among participants.

The workshop concluded with a strong call for continued efforts to strengthen student motivation and feedback practices in universities across Bangladesh.

Participants expressed optimism that such initiatives would contribute to improving the overall quality of higher education and fostering a more engaging academic environment, the release adds.
