A bunch of Jahangirnagar University Chhatra League leaders and activists of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall conducted a procession armed with indigenous weapons like machetes, iron pipes, and rods in reply to a scuffle occurred regarding 'sitting at Sultan's Dine Restaurant in Savar' with some resident students of Bishwakabi Rabindranath Tagore Hall.

The incident took place on Wednesday (March 22) around 8:30 pm in the Bot-tola area of the university.

After receiving the news of the procession, the proctorial team positioned them in the intersection of the University's Bot-tola area and stopped them when they were heading towards Rabindranath Tagore Hall. There was an hour-long argument between the leaders and activists of the Chhatra League and the members of the proctorial body.

Several members of the Chhatra League repeatedly came up lifting iron pipes and shouted slogans in discourteous language towards the Proctorial Body and Residents of Rabindranath Tagore Hall.

One of them saying, 'the problem will be solved only by cracking the head of Proctor,' was heard.

There were also allegations of chasing and assaulting two journalists who went there to collect news. A few BCL activists tried to beat the campus correspondent of The Bangladesh Today, Jubair Ahmed, and DBC News correspondent Abdullah Al Mamun while collecting footage.

Jubair Ahmed's clothes were torn off by sporadic attacks, and Mamun was hit by some sticks.

Later, the agitated students left the Bot-tola area on the instructions of the hall leaders as all the journalists opposed.

After receiving the news of the incident, the president of the branch Chhatra League Aktaruzzaman Sohel and general secretary Habibur Rahman Liton came to the spot.

"We did not know about the attack on the journalist. I am sorry for this incident," Liton told the journalists.

President Aktaruzzaman Sohel said, "Actions will be taken against everyone who has indigenous weapons. It's alarming for the security of the campus having domestic weapons and we're against all this. JU BCL will give all possible support to the university administration in eliminating the weapons from the hall."

Meanwhile, the victim journalist Jubair Ahmed filed a written complaint to the proctor. In his application, he named four persons, Lelin Mahbub, Hasan Mahmud Farid, Abul Kalam Azad and Abdullah Al Farooq Imran, who are top brass leaders of the hall.

Nasir Mustakim (Department of Geological Sciences, 47 Batch) provoked the attack by saying, 'journalist, catch them'.

Abdullah Prince (Zoology, 49 Batch), Anoop Sarkar Dip (Environmental Science, 49 Batch), Mahmudul Hasan Shanto (Chemistry 49 Batch), Maruf Faisal (Philosophy, 50 Batch), Kazi Raisul Juhala (Anthropology, 50 Batch), Rakibul Hasan (Anthropology, 50th batch) and Abu Naeem (Bangla, 50th batch) were present in the attack.

Jubair claimed he was targeted because he reported about 'slapping and rapturing eardrums of BCL activist in the same hall's guest room first, and a bunch of the accused leaders were present on the spot negotiating with the proctorial body.

The proctor of the university, ASM Firoz-ul-Hasan, said, "Today's incident is unexpected. We monitor such incidents closely and take appropriate action through investigation. In this case also, the same will be done. Apart from this, if any complaints are received, they will also be investigated. You have seen what they have done."

It is known that last Sunday (March 19), Sagar, Galib, Khalid, Kafri -- 47 batch students of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall, had an argument about who will sit first at Sultan's Dine chair in Savar with Mahfuzur Rahman (IBA-47), a resident student of Rabindranath Hall.

Mahfuz, beaten up in the area adjacent to the central mosque, filed a written complaint against 40 unidentified people, including Ahmed Galib, Tanvir Islam, Sabbir Hasan Sagar and Khalid Hasan.

Ahmed Galib was beaten up by a group of students of Rabindranath Tagore Hall in Bot-tola on Wednesday evening.

Later, they were armed with domestic weapons and marched towards Rabindranath Tagore Hall. He was seen holding a machete where others were with iron pipes, rods, sticks and others.
