JU conducts admission test for 'A Unit', Arts Faculty exams on Sunday

The admission test at Jahangirnagar University (JU) for 2023-2024 commenced on Thursday. The 'A' unit exam under the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics and IIT took place on the opening day of the admission tests. The first session began at 9:00 am, while the final sixth session concluded at 5:40 pm. A total of 33,705 male and 16,711 female applicants have applied for 223 seats each in the 'A' unit.

Prof. Farid Ahmed, the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, noted that 28,409 male students attended today's exam, with an attendance rate of 84.29%. For female students, 12,386 were present, with an attendance rate of 74%. Thus, the overall exam attendance stands at 79.14%.

This morning, Professor Dr Md. Nurul Alam, the Vice-Chancellor (VC), visited the admission test at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Present alongside the VC were Pro-VC (Administration) Professor Sheikh Md. Monzurul Huq, Pro-VC (Academic) Professor Dr. Mohammed Mostafa Feeroz, Treasurer Professor Rasheda Akhtar, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Professor Bashir Ahmed, Registrar Md. Abu Hasan, and others. The Vice-Chancellor expressed contentment with the fair and peaceful conduct of the admission test.

On Sunday, February 25, the admission tests for the 'C-1' Unit under the Department of Drama and Dramatics and Department of Fine Arts, as well as the 'C Unit' under the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Bangabandhu Institute of Comparative Literature and Culture, will take place.

For the 'C-1 Unit', which has 32 seats for males and 32 for females, there are 1,895 male and 2,334 female applicants. In the 'C' unit, which offers 194 seats for both boys and girls, there are 18,066 male applicants and 21,779 female applicants.

The admission test for the 'D' Unit (Faculty of Biological Sciences) is scheduled for Tuesday, February 27, and Wednesday, February 28. There are 155 seats available for boys and 155 for girls in this faculty. However, there are 32,095 male applicants and 37,321 female applicants.

The admission test will conclude on Thursday, February 29, with the admission tests for the 'B' Unit under the Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Law, Institute of Business Studies (IBA), and the 'E' Unit under the Faculty of Business Studies.

For the 'B' Unit, which offers 193 seats for males and 193 seats for females, there are 7,830 male applicants and 9,886 female applicants. In the IBA, 2,260 male applicants and 1,286 female applicants are vying for 25 seats for both boys and girls.

For the 'E' Unit, which has 100 seats each for males and females, there are 7,154 male applicants and 5,529 female applicants.

In the academic year 2023-24, there are a total of 1,844 seats available, with 922 seats allocated for male students and 922 for female students. The number of applicants for these seats is 197,851 individuals. Consequently, an average of 108 candidates will compete for each available seat in this year's admission test.
