Jahangirnagar University (JU) got two new pro-Vice-Chancellors and a Treasurer. Professor Sohel Ahmed from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has been named Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration), while Professor M. Mahfuzur Rahman from the Department of Botany will serve as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic).

Additionally, Dr. M Abdur Rab from the Mathematics Department has been appointed Treasurer.

The Department of Secondary and Higher Education under the Ministry of Education issued three separate notifications on Wednesday, following approval from the President and Chancellor.

According to the notification, the appointments for the pro-Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer are for a term of four years from the date of joining. During this period, they will receive the same salary as the current post holders and enjoy all related benefits. They are required to reside on the university campus and carry out the duties and powers assigned by the university statutes and laws, as well as those conferred by the Vice-Chancellor. The President and Chancellor hold the authority to revoke these appointments at any time if deemed necessary.

The newly appointed officials assumed their responsibilities in the afternoon.

Following the fall of Sheikh Hasina's autocratic government on August 5, officials appointed during her tenure began to resign. This led to the resignation of the University’s Vice-Chancellor on August 7, the pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) on August 13, and both the pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) and Treasurer on August 19.
