The administration of Jahangirnagar University (JU) commenced a month-long tree-planting initiative at the university's botanical garden yesterday (Wednesday). The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Md Nurul Alam, inaugurated the plantation program while attending as the chief guest at 10 am.
He said, "If we want to keep the habitable world intact, we have to love the environment. Trees, integral to both the environment and nature, play diverse roles in human existence. Their contributions encompass supplying oxygen, preserving wildlife, and maintaining equilibrium within the diverse nature. Trees save our lives, so we need to be more conscious about saving different species of trees."
After the opening ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor planted the sapling of Falsa (Grewiaasiatica). The Estate Office of the university confirmed that under this tree planting program, around 1,000 saplings of various species, including Falsa, Avocado, Miyazaki Mango, Thai White Berry, Persimmon, Thai Sapheda, Coconut, Betel nut will be planted.
Among others, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Sheikh Md. MonzurulHaq, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mostafa Feeroz, Treasurer Prof. Dr. Rasheda Akhtar, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof. Dr. Md. NuhuAlam, Acting Registrar Md. Abu Hasan, Proctor ASM Firoz-ul-Hassan, Chairman of the Department of Botany Professor Dr. Saleh Ahmed Khan, Chairman of the Department of Statistics Prof. Dr. Mohammad Alamgir Kabir, Director of IQAC, Syed Hafizur Rahman planted saplings of various species of trees in the day of inauguration.
