Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities strongly condemned recent remarks made by Jamaat-e-Islami leader Amir Hamza regarding the university, describing them as “false, baseless and fabricated.”

In a press release issued on Sunday, the JU administration formally protested Hamza’s statements, emphasizing that all claims made by him are entirely untrue.

According to the statement, the university became aware of a speech by Hamza in which he made several allegations about JU. The release categorically noted that none of his statements are true.

Clarifying the matter, the administration pointed out that the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at JU was established in 2011, with its first batch of undergraduate students enrolled in the academic year 2011–12. “Therefore, the claim that he was admitted to the department is false,” it added.

The release further rejected Hamza’s account of students using alcohol in residential halls, describing it as “imaginary and fabricated,” noting that no such evidence exists in the university’s records. His claim that students physically assaulted teachers was also dismissed as “a distortion of the truth.”

The statement further emphasized that teacher–student relations at JU have always been marked by mutual respect and cooperation.

“Such baseless and ill-motivated remarks about a national institution are unacceptable and deeply regrettable,” the release said. The JU authorities urged Mr. Hamza to remain cautious and objective while making public statements in the future.
