JU VC nominated for 'ATN Bangla Unnayane Bangladesh Award' in Education

The Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, Professor Dr Md. Nurul Alam has been nominated for the 'ATN Bangla Unnayane Bangladesh Award 2022' in 'Shikkha Unnayan' category for his significant contribution to the education sector. 

On Wednesday (March 1), this information was informed in a press release signed by Mohammad Mohiuddin, acting director of the university's public relations office.

It is mentioned in the circular this information has been informed in a letter signed by Tashiq Ahmed, Advisor (Events and Broadcasting) of ATN Bangla. 

This award will be presented on the 8th floor of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) on Sunday, March 5 2023, at 6.00 pm. 

Honourable Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Mr Anisul Haque, MP, will present the award as the Chief Guest. Mahfuzur Rahman, Chairman of ATN Bangla will preside over the award ceremony. 

Expressing the feeling of receiving such honour, Professor Dr Nurul Alam said, "I have been given this award for contributing to education development. I am always working to improve the quality of education and research in the university and strive to make Jahangirnagar University a world-class educational institution."

He further said, "I am happy to be honored, thankful and grateful to the authorities for giving me the award of ATN Bangla."

Nurul Alam received his Bachelor's (Honours) degree in 1976 and Master's degree in 1977 from the Department of Physics, Jahangirnagar University. In 1996, he obtained his PhD degree from the same university.

From 1980 to 1981, he worked as a Research Fellow in the Department of Physics. In 1982, he started teaching as a lecturer in the same department. Following this, he was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1986, Associate Professor in 1992 and Professor in 1997.

Professor Nurul was appointed the University's Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) in 2018. He performed the routine duties of the Vice-Chancellor from March 2, 2022. Then on April 17, he was temporarily appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University. 

On September 13 2022, he was appointed the full-fledged Vice-Chancellor of the University for the next four years.

Besides performing important duties as an administrator, he has published more than 20 research papers in national and international journals.
