Nine people, including the proctor of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST), have been injured in sporadic clashes between two groups of students on the campus.
The clash ensued after heated arguments between two groups of students at a tea stall on the campus on Friday night.
Witnesses said preparation was going on for forming a committee over anti-discrimination student movement and a tense situation was prevailing over the issue.
Around 9:30 pm, an altercation ensued between two groups of students—one who participated in the anti-discrimination movement and another group of students from Computer Science and Engineering Department.
At one stage, both groups went to the proctor's office to settle the issue, but a clash broke out there that left eight people, including proctor Amjad Hossain injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Prof. Md Abdul Majid, Vice-Chancellor of the university.
Additional police have been deployed to avert further trouble.
