A crisp winter morning at Rajshahi University's (RU) Agriculture Faculty turned into a vibrant celebration of tradition as the warm aroma of freshly made pitha filled the air.
With the theme "Him-him shiter batas", the Agronomy and Agricultural Extension Association hosted the lively "Nabanna and Pitha Utshab 1432" on Sunday (16 November).
The day began with the symbolic harvesting of paddy at 9am, marking the inauguration of the festival. The age-old rural custom of celebrating the arrival of new rice-Nabanna-came alive on the campus, drawing students, teachers, and visitors to the Agriculture Faculty premises.
Soon after, the grounds transformed into a bustling festive hub as stalls displayed an impressive array of more than 150 varieties of pitha crafted by students.
The assortment included traditional favourites such as dudh puli, chandra puli, narikel puli, tel pitha, nakshi pitha, dudh chitoi, shamuk pitha, jamai pitha, pati sapta, and golap pitha. There were also creative additions like malai bihar, daber pudding, rupali pitha, chhola barfi, mohonbhog, dim sundori, macher pitha, gajorer halua, and khir puli-turning the area into a winter-themed rural food fair for a day.
The colourful rally that started from the faculty premises and paraded through the university's main roads added further life to the event, as music, dance, and cheerful crowds created a thoroughly festive ambiance.
