Jahangirnagar University's (JU) Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department is set to host the National Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC)-2023, involving 600 students from both public and private universities in Bangladesh. The event aims to boost programming abilities and problem-solving skills among university students in the country.

The opening ceremony and rehearsal contest are scheduled to take place at the department today (on Friday) at 3 pm, with the main competition scheduled for Saturday. Minister of State for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak will grace the inauguration ceremony as the chief guest.

During a press conference held on Thursday at 11 am by the department, the chairman of the department and convener of the NCPC-2023, Dr. Md. Golam Moazzam, extended a warm welcome. He remarked, "The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is hosting a national-level program for the first time. Skilled programmers are needed for the development of a smarter Bangladesh. The NCPC stands as a pivotal avenue for spotting talented programmers nationwide."

Assistant Professor Mohammad Ashraful Islam, the Secretary of NCPC, shared comprehensive details about the competition. "Out of 1,100 teams from 117 universities participating in online competitions, 200 teams have been selected for the National Collegiate Programming Contest. Each team consists of three students, totalling 600 participants, who will confront specific programming challenges during a five-hour duration. The top ten teams will be rewarded with cash prizes and crests, while trophies await the first and second-place winners," remarked Mohammad Ashraful Islam.

During the press conference, Dr. M. Kaykobad, former professor of BUET, stated, "Building a smart Bangladesh requires smart individuals, particularly among graduates in Computer Science and Engineering. The NCPC holds significance as a team from this field will vie internationally in April."

The organisers anticipate that the event, with participants from over 100 universities across Bangladesh, will be an exhilarating and intensely competitive coding challenge.

The National Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC) received patronage from the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) back in 1998. Since its inception, the competition has successfully fostered a fervour for programming among aspiring coders in the country.
