NSU holds workshop on biosafety to enhance skills of faculty members, lab officers

The Office of Research-NSU (OR-NSU), in collaboration with the Bangladesh Biosafety and Biosecurity Society (BBBS) and the North South University Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), recently organised a workshop to enhance the knowledge and skills of faculty members and lab officers of the School of Health and Life Sciences.

Dr Asadulghani, Head of Biosafety at icddr,b and Chairman of BBBS, and Dr Md Rakibul Islam, General Secretary of BBBS and a Biochemistry professor at the University of Dhaka, were principal trainers at the two-day workshop, said a press release on Wednesday. 

The ‘Biosafety and Biosecurity Workshop’ received sponsorship from the Office of Research (OR-NSU) under the guidance and logistical support provided by Professor Dr Nayeema Bulbul, Chair of NSU IBC, and Dr Md Fakruddin, NSU Institutional Biosafety Officer.

During the opening session, Professor Dr Ismail Hossain, Pro Vice Chancellor of NSU, was the chief guest at the workshop, while Dr Rubhana Raqib, Senior Scientist (Emeritus) of icddr,b Infectious Diseases Division, attended the programme as the special guest. 

Dr Chandan K. Roy, President of BBBS and Associate Professor, Microbiology and Immunology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and Dr Md Hafizur Rahman, Treasurer of BBBS and Registrar, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, also attended the workshop. 

During the closing session, Professor Dr Norman K Swazo, Director of OR-NSU, delivered a welcome address and shared insights as the chief guest. Professor Dr Hasan Mahmud Reza, Dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences, attended as the special guest, emphasising the significance of biosafety and biosecurity in the field. 

Dr Nayeema Bulbul concluded the workshop by expressing her gratitude in the vote of thanks.
