NSU IQAC holds Faculty Orientation and Development Workshop Summer 2024

A three-day-long faculty orientation and development workshop for Summer 2024 has been organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of North South University (NSU). On July 4, 7 and 8, 2024, the orientation programme was held at NSU. Around 40 new faculty members from sixteen departments attended the programme.

The orientation workshop started with a welcome address by Professor Dr Nazmun Nahar, director, IQAC. Professor Abdur Rob Khan, pro-vice chancellor (in-charge) and treasurer of NSU, welcomed the new faculty members and discussed the concepts of ethics in teaching. He also appreciates the efforts made by the IQAC team to organise this type of workshop at NSU, according to a press release.

Professor Sk Tawfique M Haque, dean (AC) of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences; Professor Mohammad Sahadet Hossain, dean of the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences; Professor Helal Ahammad, dean of the School of Business and Economics; and Professor Dipak Kumar Mitra, dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences, were also present at the workshop, talked about their respective schools, and discussed the importance of the faculty training programme.

In the span of three days, different sessions focused on administrative rules and regulations of NSU, teaching and research philosophies, effective teaching and assessment methodology, Outcome Based Education (OBE), curriculum development, preparing course outlines, and the application of CANVAS (a kind of software), and so on. There was a special segment on the usage of library resources and medical services available at NSU.

On Day 3 of the workshop, there was a session called micro-teaching whereby the participants were divided into small groups and asked to present on different topics.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks from the director and additional directors of IQAC. The participants also thanked the NSU authority and IQAC for organising the orientation programme.
