MACES, an education consultancy firm in Bangladesh, is going to organise its third personal statement writing competition. The personal statement is one of the most important elements of a foreign university application. Students need to write these essays for applying to universities in countries such as the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan etc. Many university admissions officers use the essay to make their final decision on a shortlist of candidates, says a press release.

By hosting this competition every year, MACES tries to provide support to schools and students  by helping them prepare better for applying for higher studies abroad and increase their chance of acceptance at top universities of the world. Participating in this contest provide students with the tools to write a great personal statement and most importantly the opportunity to have their university application essays reviewed by actual university admission tutors. Admission tutors from the University of Glasgow, Queen Mary University of London, University of York, University of Nottingham, CATS College and Coventry University will be judging the personal statement writing competition this year.

Fourteen A-level schools from Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet participated in the competition last year with total number of registrations exceeding five hundred. Mushfique Un Nabi  from DPS STS School became the winner, Mishkat Kabir of International Turkish Hope School the first runner-up and and Tajnubal Hoque of Presidency International School Chittagong the second runner-up in last year's competition.

Rebecca Stein, a Harvard University trained admission specialist, will be coming to Bangladesh to conduct workshops for registrants on 'How to write the perfect personal statement' to prepare students for the competition and their future university applications. The other major benefit students will receive from participating in the competition is that all qualified entries will get feedback on their essays from universities in the judging panel. Students can use this feedback to polish up their final university application essays.

The resulf of the contest will be announced at a grand award giving ceremony in October. The winner will receive a brand new laptop computer and runners-up will be awarded multi-media tablets. All the participants will be awarded with a certificate with top 20 receiving special crests.
