Rajshahi University (RU) has, for the first time, launched a five-day training workshop for newly appointed teachers to enhance their teaching skills and academic orientation.
A total of 84 young faculty members from 17 departments are participating in the programme, organised by the university's Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).The event will end today (Saturday).
Earlier, the inaugural ceremony took place on Tuesday at the IQAC conference room in Ismail Hossain Siraji Bhaban. The workshop runs daily from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM and will conclude with a closing session on the final day.
Senior professors of the university are conducting sessions on topics including teachers' roles and responsibilities, research ethics, academic integrity, teaching methods, student-teacher relationships, curriculum modernisation, accreditation, unbiased evaluation, and qualities of student-friendly teaching.
Addressing the opening session as chief guest, RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Saleh Hasan Naqib said, "The purpose of this workshop is mutual learning -- sharing ideas with each other. Such initiatives are very timely and will help young teachers become more student-oriented in their academic journey."
Presiding over the event, IQAC Director Prof Dr Abu Reza said, "This is our first initiative to arrange a training workshop for new teachers. Often, new faculty members -- though highly qualified, many with PhDs from home and abroad -- face difficulties in understanding their responsibilities initially. By combining modern approaches with our traditional practices, we aim to improve the overall quality of education."
