The School of Business and Economics (SoBE) at United International University (UIU) has successfully organised the 2nd nationwide Inter-University research competition, titled “Undergraduate Research Symposium (URS) 2024.” The award ceremony took place on Monday (January 13) at the UIU Campus, United City, in Dhaka.
Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka was present as the Chief Guest. Professor Emeritus Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, Executive Director of UIU Institute for Advanced Research (IAR) and Chairman, Power Grid Bangladesh PLC was present as the Special Guest. The Vice Chancellor of UIU Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia presided over the Ceremony. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Mohd. H. R. Joarder, SoBE, UIU & Convenor, URS-2024 and the vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Musa, Dean of SoBE, UIU.
The Undergraduate Research Symposium aimed to promote research culture among undergraduate students, particularly in business education, by engaging both public and private universities. Hundreds of young researchers participated in the competition, which was divided into three domains. The top 10 teams from each domain were invited to present their research papers. All participants received certificates and gift packs, with six winners emerging from the competition.
In each domain, the best research paper was awarded BDT 1,00,000 as the first prize, followed by BDT 60,000 for the first runner-up, and BDT 40,000 for the second runner-up. The winners were as follows:
Domain 1:
- Champion: Ramisa Rutbata Hossain Avantika & Rajin Al-Tanjim Bhuiyan (UIU)
- 1st Runner-up: Faiyaz Bin Zulfiqar & Samiha Tasnim Promi (UIU)
- 2nd Runner-up: Asia Bagum, Maruf Hasan Arif, Mesbah Amin & Maksudur Rahman (UIU)
Domain 2:
- Champion: Muhtasim Ahamed Chowdhury (UIU)
- 1st Runner-up: Tawsif Abrar Faiyaz, Nur Afrin Chowdhury Ananna & Maisha Jahin (NSU)
- 2nd Runner-up: Tarif Hassan, Rafia Tabassum Sara & Ayman Ilias Choudhury (IBA, DU)
Addressing the audience, Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan emphasized the significance of research in national progress. He encouraged students to engage in research during their university years, highlighting its role in preparing them for higher studies abroad and contributing to their development as future researchers.
The event was attended by faculty members, students, officials, academicians, government representatives, researchers, journalists, and other distinguished guests, making it a resounding success.
