Students of seven government colleges in Dhaka have announced holding a blockade programme at several key intersections in the capital, demanding the issuance of an ordinance to establish the proposed Dhaka Central University, bringing the colleges under a single institution.

The announcement was made through a press release sent to the media on Tuesday (13 January).

According to the statement, students will block Science Lab, Technical Morh, and Tantibazar intersections from 11:00 am on Wednesday (14 January). The blockade is part of their demand for the formal issuance of the Dhaka Central University ordinance.

The press release stated that the draft of the Dhaka Central University Act, 2025, prepared with the aim of establishing the university by integrating seven government colleges, was published on the website of the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education on 24 September 2025.

Following its publication, the draft sparked widespread debate both in favour of and against the proposal. In response, the Ministry of Education held several consultation meetings with stakeholders.

The release further stated that, according to a source, a meeting of the Advisory Council of the interim government is likely to be held on 15 January 2026. The students want the updated draft of the Dhaka Central University Act, 2025 to be approved at that meeting, along with the issuance of the final ordinance by the President.
