Seven faculty members and a student from Jahangirnagar University (JU) have been ranked among the world's top 2.0 per cent of most-cited scientists in a list prepared by Stanford University researchers and published in the Elsevier journal on September 20.
The list, compiled by John P. A. Ioannidis of the Meta-Research Innovation Center at Stanford University in the US, assesses scientists based on research publications, H-index, citations, and other metrics. It categorises researchers across 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields, recognising them for both career-long impact and single-year performance.
The JU scholars recognised in the list are Prof AA Mamun of Physics department; Associate Prof Md Mostafizur Rahman of Environmental Sciences department; Assistant Prof Md Sayeed Al-Zaman of Journalism and Media Studies department; Prof Md Anamul Hoque Chemistry department; Prof Nurul Islam of Chemistry department; and Prof M Shamim Kaiser of Institute of Information Technology.
The sole student is Md A Mamun of the Dept of Public Health and Informatics.
The Stanford-Elsevier Top 2% Scientists List is considered a global benchmark for evaluating researchers' citation impact and academic contributions. Elsevier, a leading publisher, releases over 2,000 journals annually.
