Professor Dr Md Sohel Rana from the Department of Pharmacy and Professor Ireen Akhter from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) have been elected as President and Secretary, respectively, of the Jahangirnagar University Teachers’ Association (JUTA).
In the 2025 Executive Council election of JUTA, candidates for 14 out of 15 positions, including the president, were elected unopposed.
However, the general secretary position was contested by three candidates.
Professor Ireen Akhter secured the post with 191 votes, while Professor Dr Mahtab Uddin Ahmed from the Department of Mathematics received 157 votes, and Professor Md Kabir Uddin Sikder from the Department of Physics garnered 80 votes.
The voting of this post was held from 10 am to 1 pm on Wednesday, and the results were declared at 2:30 pm by Election Commissioner Professor Dr Anirudha Kahaly following the vote count.
Professor Dr Md Emran Jahan of the Department of History has been elected as vice-president, Professor Masum Shahriar from the Department of Pharmacy as treasurer, while Associate Professor Dr Mohammad Raihan Sharif from the Department of English has been elected as joint secretary unopposed.
The executive members elected unopposed in the 2025 JUTA election are: Associate Professor Abu Sayef Md Muntaquimul Bari Chowdhuri (Management Studies), Associate Professor Ameena Islam (Journalism and Media Studies), Professor Aminur Rahman Khan (Mathematics), Professor Dr Kh Lutful Elahi (History), Dr Nahid Akhtar (Botany), Professor Borhan Uddin (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), Dr Mohammad Safiqul Islam (Economics), Mohammad Amzad Hossain (Economics), Professor Dr M Mahbubur Rahman (Physics), and Associate Professor Md. Abdus Sabur (Chemistry).
