Southeast University Spring 2024 orientation programme welcomes new students

Southeast University (SEU) recently welcomed its newly enrolled students through a vibrant orientation programme for the spring 2024 semester. 

The event, titled ‘Freshers' Reception & Orientation Programme’, was held on March 4th and 5th at the SEU Multipurpose Hall on the university campus in the capital’s Tejgaon area, according to a press release.

The orientation programme, presided over by  Prof. Dr AFM Mafizul Islam, Vice Chancellor of SEU, comprised four sessions catering to different departments.

The inaugural session, held on March 4, greeted the newly admitted Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department students. Dr Mohammad Kaykobad, former professor of CSE at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was the chief guest, with Raisul Kabir, Co-founder and CEO of Brain Station 23, as the special guest.

The second session on the same day welcomed new students from the Architecture, EEE, Pharmacy, and Textile departments. Prof. Dr Ehsanul Kabir, Managing Director and CEO of Essential Drugs Co Ltd graced this session as the chief guest.  Engr. Md Ashad Hossain, Chairman of the Textile Engineering Division at the Institute of Engineers (IEB) was present as the special guest.

The third session of the programme started on March 5 and welcomed students from Bangla (BA & MA), English (BA & MA), Economics (BSS & MDS), and Law (LLB & LLM) departments.

Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman, Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, was present as the chief guest in this session, with Brother Dr Leo James Pereira, Principal of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School and College, as the special guest. 

The fourth and final session, organised by Southeast Business School, was graced by Vice Chancellor of Notre Dame University, Prof. Dr Patrick Daniel Gaffney, C.S.C, as the chief guest, and Md Hazrat Ali, Principal of Uttara Girls High School & College, as the special guest.

Meanwhile, Southeast University welcomed five academics to its faculty.

Prof. Dr. Yusuf Mahbubul Islam has joined the Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE). He brings with him extensive academic and industry experience. 

Prof. ABM Faroque takes on the dual role of Professor in the Department of Pharmacy and Dean of the School of Science & Engineering (SSE) at SEU.

Prof. Dr. Farhana Helal Mehtab joined as the Dean and Professor of Law at the School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS). She is the first female Dean of the Faculty of Law among the private universities in Bangladesh.

Prof. Engr. Mashud Ahmed joins the Department of Textile Engineering as its chairman. He has extensive teaching experience at the Bangladesh University of Textiles as a professor.

Dr. Hasnat M Alamgir has joined the Pharmacy department of SEU as a professor and as the Director of Career & Professional Development Services (CPDS). He will also serve as an advisor to the Institute of Research and Training (IRT).
