UIU holds 8th convocation on its campus

The 8th Convocation of United International University (UIU) was held on Saturday at UIU Campus, United City, Madani Avenue, in the city.

Prof. Dr. Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman, Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) presided over the ceremony on behalf of the president and chancellor of the UIU.

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossen, Member of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, was present as Convocation Special Guest.

Prof. Dr. M Taher A Saif, Grainger Distinguished Chair in Engineering, Mechanical Science and Engineering, Bioengineering, Neuroscience, Cancer Center at Illinois, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA was present as the Convocation Speaker. The ceremony was also addressed by Mr. Hasan Mahmood Raja, Chairman, Board of Trustees, UIU and Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia, Vice Chancellor, United International University.

The Vice Chancellor of BUET, Prof. Dr. Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman, said, “We need to focus on how to make our innovations more advanced and sustainable through scalable solutions. For this, he urged students to not only pursue higher education but also transition from labour-intensive to knowledge-intensive education. He also called on the new graduates to play a fundamental role in the country’s social change, economic development, and modernisation, establishing themselves as global citizens.”

A total of 1736 students from different disciplines were conferred undergraduate and graduate degrees, while four meritorious students received Gold Medals for their excellent results.   

The special guest, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossen, said that ‘The knowledge and skills you have acquired here are not solely for personal enrichment, but also for the collective development of society.

The convocation speaker, Prof. Dr. M. Taher A. Saif, congratulated the students who received degrees in the 8th Convocation and wished them success in their work, while advising them to work sincerely for human welfare.

In his speech, Chairman of UIU BoT Mr. Hasan Mahmood Raja stated that the graduates of UIU will bring pride to their families and the entire community through their professional accomplishments and endeavours.

Vice Chancellor of UIU Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia calls for the graduates to be good human beings and devote themselves to the welfare of society and humanity.

The vice-chancellors of different universities, BoT members of UIU, all Deans, Heads of the departments, Teachers, Administrative officials, academicians attended the convocation program.
