Uttara University organised a seminar titled ‘Relationship First Aid for Female Students’ on Wednesday (14th May) at the university’s Multipurpose Hall.
Jointly arranged by the Mental Health Unit and the Office of Student Affairs, the seminar aimed to raise awareness about healthy relationships, empower female students, and boost their confidence in addressing harassment — all to foster a safer and more supportive campus environment, according to a press release on Thursday.
The seminar was inaugurated by Professor Dr Gour Gobinda Goswami, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Uttara University. It was followed by welcome speeches from key university officials, including Dr Shah Ahmed, Director of the Office of Student Affairs; Mohammad Ali, Controller of Examinations; Kazi Mahiuddin, Registrar; and Professor Haspia Bashirullah, Treasurer of Uttara University.
A series of technical sessions followed. The first session, “Understanding Relationships,” was conducted by Md Abu Zahid Hasan, Psychological Counsellor at UU. Next, Afshana Najnin Jicia, Assistant Counselling Psychologist, presented “Explanation of Neuropsychological Differences in Male–Female Relationships.” This was followed by “Legal Advice & Institutional Support,” led by Jayasri Samaddar, Associate Professor of Law. The final session, “Instant Crisis Intervention and UU Mental Health Support,” was delivered by Mst Nurjahan Islam Suchi, Assistant Counselling Psychologist.
The seminar concluded with an inspiring speech by Professor Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha, Vice Chancellor of Uttara University. She highlighted the significance of mental well-being, emotional resilience, and the university’s commitment to supporting female students. Her words served as a strong source of encouragement for all attendees and organisers.
The event was supported by the Office of External Affairs, in collaboration with the Brand and Communication and Public Relations Team of Uttara University.
