Uttara University hosts 9th Convocation

The 9th Convocation of Uttara University was held on the morning of Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
 
The ceremony was presided over by Professor Dr. M Aminul Islam, Special Assistant (State Minister’s Status) Ministry of Education, on behalf of the Chancellor and President of Bangladesh, Mohammed Shahabuddin, according to a media release. 
 
The chief guest for the event was Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossen, a Member of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Bangladesh.
 
The convocation speaker was Professor Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Chairman of Grameen Bank and Vice-Chancellor of North South University.
 
Also addressing the ceremony were the Vice-Chancellor of Uttara University, Professor Dr. Eaysmin Ara Lekha, and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Gour Gobinda Goswami.
 
Uttara University’s Registrar, Mr. Kazi Mahiuddin, expressed gratitude to all the guests present at the convocation.
 
In his speech, Professor Dr. M Aminul Islam emphasized the importance of acquiring soft skills, values, and language proficiency alongside higher education.
 
He said, “Uttara University plays a vital role in enhancing research and the quality of higher education. This university will produce skilled and competent graduates to lead the future of Bangladesh.”
 
In his address, Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossen encouraged the new graduates to use the knowledge and skills they gained not only for their own well-being or that of their families but also for the development of the nation, society, and community.
 
Convocation speaker, Professor Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, urged the graduates to use the knowledge, intellect, and wisdom acquired from their families and teachers for the betterment of the nation.
 
He added, “With persistence, hard work, and a passion for your work, success will surely come.”
 
Congratulating the graduating students, Uttara University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Eaysmin Ara Lekha, remarked, “You will represent this university and the nation in the future. Therefore, you must play a role in building an ideal society inspired by integrity, ethics, and patriotism.”
 
During the 9th Convocation, 3,497 students were awarded graduation and post-graduation degrees.
 
Two students received the Chancellor’s Gold Medal for outstanding academic performance, and 35 students were honoured with the Trustee, VC, and Dean’s Awards.
 
The convocation was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Founding Vice-Chancellor of Uttara University, Professor Dr. M Azizur Rahman, distinguished intellectuals, high-ranking government officials, members of the Board of Trustees of various private universities, Vice-Chancellors and Pro-Vice-Chancellors of public and private universities, military and civilian officers, Deans of all faculties, department heads, faculty members, staff, journalists, scholars, and other distinguished guests.
 
The event concluded with a captivating musical performance by Bangladesh’s popular pop band ‘Warfaze.’
