IGCC to organise classical event by Alif Laila

The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) is organising an evening of Bengali Classical Songs by Ms Alif Laila on Saturday at 6.30 pm at Kobi Sufia Kamal Auditorium in the capital.

The programme will be open for all, said a media release.

Ms Alif Laila was born in a musical family and started learning singing from early childhood. She has a First Class First degree in Post Graduation in Performing Arts from Rajshahi University.

She has trained under eminent musicians, namely, Dr Asit Ray, Dr Padmini Dey, Dr Krishnapada Mondal, Shaila Tasmin and many others.

Alif Laila learnt Bangla Raag Sangeet from the revered Music Maestro of Bangladesh, Ustad Azad Rahman.

Laila has received prizes in many competitions since her school days - Channel I ‘Shera Kontho’; Bengal Foundation’s Nazrul Sangeet and Lok Sanget competition; ATN Bangla channel’s competition ‘Nabin Baran’; ‘Notun Kuri’ of BTV , Jatio Shishu Protijogita etc.

She is a versatile singer and sings a variety of songs - folk songs, Lalon Sangeet, Nazrulgeeti, Modern Bangla songs and Bangla Classical songs which include kheyal, Thumri, ghazal, bhajan etc.

Alif Laila is a Special Grade artist of BTV and Bangladesh Betar. She was formerly teacher in Cambrian School and College and also taught in Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Mymemsingh and Rajshahi.

Presently Alif Laila is Assistant Professor in Jatio Kobi Kazi Nazrul Islam University. She is also doing research in Lalon songs under Dr. Asit Ray in Rajshahi University.
