Jannatul Ferdous Oishee from Pirojpur has won the title of ‘Miss World Bangladesh’ defeating 30,000 contestants.
She will represent Bangladesh in the upcoming ‘Miss World’ competition set for Dec 8 in China.
Oishee was crowned on Sunday. Nishat Nawar Salwa has been chosen as the first runner-up and Naziba Bushra as the second, reports bdnews24.
“I feel great. My earnest gratitude to everyone,” an excited Oishee said.
“I love my country and my culture. I have been fighting for myself as of now, but from now on, I have to fight for my country. It’s a great responsibility for me and I seek blessings from all,” she said when asked how she will represent the country in the main pageant.
The 18-year-old has completed her higher secondary education. Her father is a development worker and her mother is a teacher. Oishee is the youngest among siblings.
She has been participating in debates regularly while in school and college. She is also involved in dance, swimming, drawing, writing, singing and compering, said Oishee adding about her involvement in social welfare activities.
Both of her close rivals in the pageant Nishat and Naziba have wished her luck in representing the country on the international stage.
There will be ample time to groom the contestant for the final pageant as almost three months are left, said organisers.
Famed groomer Nayanika Chatterjee who has helped a number of contestants to win the Miss World crown since 1996 will groom Oishee.
The main panel of judges in the pageant included singer Shuvro Deb, actor-model Khaled Hossain Shujon, model Sadia Shabnaz Emi and Barrister Farabi.
