One or two mild to moderate cold waves may sweep across the western and northern parts of Bangladesh in the second half of December, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast.
The prediction came in a long-term weather forecast for the current month, issued on Monday.
It warned that during cold spells, temperatures may drop to 8–10° Celsius (mild) and 6–8° Celsius (moderate) in those regions.
Rainfall is likely to be normal over the country this month, the BMD added.
Forecasting a low-pressure system or cyclone, the Met Office says that one or two low-pressure areas may form over the south Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, one of which could turn into a low or a cyclone.
The BMD noted that the day and night temperatures may gradually decrease, although they may remain normal this month.
According to the forecast, moderate to dense fog may occur from midnight to morning over the country's river basins, and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere.
