Public buildings will be built using green technology, materials: Saber

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury on Wednesday that the public buildings will be built using environmentally friendly technology and materials.

“The government has taken this decision to check air pollution and protect valuable arable land,” he said while laying the foundation stone for the construction of a community centre adjacent to Goran Sheikh Russel Ground in Khilgaon, Dhaka.

Saber Hossain said the ministries and departments concerned, including city corporations and municipalities, shall follow the targets of the ministry in constructing their offices.

He said many basic needs of the people living in Goran area will be fulfilled after construction of the Goran Community Centre.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said this community centre will be environment-friendly and fire-and earthquake-resistant.

He said it will have modern facilities, including parking, underground water reservoir, water pump, firefighting room, councilor room, healthcare facility, toilet, gymnasium, washroom, banquet hall and lift.

DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Mizanur Rahman, DSCC Ward-2 Councilor Anisur Rahman and Reserved Women Councilor Farzana Yasmin Biplobi were, among others, present.

Later, the environment minister and DSCC mayor planted two saplings.
