The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) says the well-marked low located on the northwest Bay of Bengal near the coast of India’s Odisha has weakened into a low-pressure area currently over India's Chhattisgarh and its adjacent areas.
In a special bulletin on Friday, the BMD said the system may now move west-northwest, leading to a steep pressure gradient in the north Bay of Bengal area, bdnews24.com reports.
However, gusty or squally winds are unlikely over all maritime ports, the north bay, and adjacent coastal areas, the BMD said.
The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to lower their cautionary signals.
The BMD’s regular bulletin says that light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds is likely in many places in the Rangpur, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and some places in the Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Mymensingh divisions in the 24 hours from 6:00 pm on Thursday.
Some places across the country may also see moderate to heavy rain.
Day and night temperatures may decrease slightly across the country over this period.
In the 24 hours to 6:00 pm on Thursday, Rajshahi recorded the highest temperature in the country at 35.3 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperatures were recorded in Sylhet and Bandarban at 24.3 degrees Celsius.
Sylhet saw 64mm of rain over the period, the highest in the country. Chattogram’s Sandwip saw 50mm of rain, while Chandpur saw 34mm.
