Bangladesh reports five more child deaths from suspected measles in a day

Another five children have died from suspected measles in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, as health authorities recorded 62 new confirmed infections amid a widening outbreak.
None of the latest deaths was laboratory-confirmed measles cases, according to the daily bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.
Since Mar 15, a total of 88 people have died after contracting measles, while another 472 people died showing symptoms of the viral disease.
Dhaka Division has recorded the highest number of suspected measles deaths at 186, followed by Rajshahi with 84.
The health directorate said 1,056 people with measles symptoms sought hospital treatment in the past 24 hours, including 933 who were admitted.
Hospitals in Dhaka reported the highest admissions at 385, while Rangpur recorded the lowest at 18.
Bangladesh has so far logged 67,079 suspected cases and 8,834 confirmed measles infections.
