BCS health cadres demand resignation of DGHS chief

The BCS Health Cadre Association on Tuesday demanded the immediate removal of Director General Dr ABM Khurshid Alam and other corrupt officials of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

They placed their two-point demand at a sit-in programme in front of the DGHS office in the capital on Tuesday.

The health cadres threatened to go for a long-term programme if their demands are not met at the earliest.

They alleged that over the past 15 years, health cadres had not been appointed to fill vacant posts, while illegal and ad-hoc recruitments and appointments were made instead.

In their two-point demand, they said that these illegal appointments in the country's health sector should be stopped.

The officials claimed that there had been unlimited irregularities and corruption in the health directorate in the last 15 years.

Umme Tania Nasrin, member secretary of BCS Health Cadre Association said, " Until now, we have been demonstrating for a six-point demand, including the cancellation of the illegal permanent appointments of ad-hoc officials, but now we have two demands."

“In the last few years, we have observed with concern that some mischievous have started posting and promoting ad-hoc and project officers, who were appointed under different recruitment rules, to cadre positions in serious violation of government employment regulations", she said.

Thousands of illegal promotions, disregarding the directives of public administration, along with about five hundred illegal appointments, irregularities, and corruption in the health department have reached an extreme level, Ms Nasrin added.
