Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) has suspended the registration of a doctor of Labaid Specialized Hospital for six months due to his negligence in performing his duty, which resulted in the death of a patient.
The registration suspension of the hospital’s Senior Consultant (internal medicine) M Shafiullah Kabir will be effective from today (Nov 8), the BMDC announced in a circular signed by its Registrar (acting) Dr Md Anwarul Haque Forazi.
With his registration as a doctor suspended, the Labaid doctor can neither provide any medical services nor identify himself as a doctor in these six months, according to the circular.
A Covid-19 patient named Mosharraf Hossain Sufel had been admitted to Labaid hospital under the care of Dr Kabir and died.
The patient’s family alleged that the doctor’s negligence lead to the death.
As such, his wife Rasheda Hossain filed a complaint against the doctor for showing duty negligence leading to his husband’s death.
Following the complaint, the BMDC interviewed and investigated both the complainant and the doctor and found evidence of substantial medical negligence on the part of the doctor.
