Health experts at a programme called for increased awareness about dementia and Alzheimer's to improve the recovery rate from these ailments.
They said that delivering better services would also be ensured if more people become aware of diseases related to memory loss.
“People suffering from such diseases usually do not get the required services and support even from their near ones," said Professor Dr Maliha Hakim, Head of Neurology, National Institute of Neurosciences & Hospital, while delivering a keynote speech at an awareness programme on dementia.
For more than two years, Dr Hakim has been working hard to create and increase awareness about dementia among the general people of Bangladesh.
As part of the initiative, an awareness program was held on Tuesday at the Lecture Gallery of Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Medical College in Chattagram. The program was organized by the Neurology department of the same hospital. Professor Dr A.S.M. Mostaque Ahmed, Principal of Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Medical College, chaired the programme.
Professor Dr Taher Khan, President Executive Committee Chattagram Maa Shishu O General Hospital, and Professor Dr Md Hassanuzzaman, Professor & Head, of Department of Neurology, Chittagong Medical College & Hospital were present as the chief guest and special guest, respectively.
